2:00 AM at the Greyhound bus station

As the rain fell from the far reaching tendrils of hurricane Matthew, I was taking my sister to the Greyhound station at around 1:30 AM, this fine Saturday morning. Rain. Rain. More rain. We arrived. She checked in; I picked a spot as far from the TV as I could, in the row behind this gentleman and his dog. My sister, however, wanted to sit closer to the exit door, so we moved. This put us almost directly in front of the much-too-loud TV. It even made it difficult to hear the announcements.

As I sat there, waiting with my sister, I listened to the current late night infomercial/church service where the preacher extolled the virtues of his 6 DVD set on getting to know Jehovah and how his particular brand of Christianity was the right one – how Jehovah is a fun-loving god and wants us to party, eat, drink, be merry, in the RIGHT way. On and on he went, hawking his wares no less than 4 times in the short (not short enough for me) 30-minute infomercial.

Finally, he ceded his position to another hawker, this one encouraging you to stop using Christmas lights, but instead use this Startastic action laser show projector. His female sidekick seemed to be very excited that she didn’t have to string hundreds upon hundreds of lights only to find out that one bulb didn’t work and the whole string was doomed, not to mention the dangerous act of climbing ladders! 🙂

Thankfully, I didn’t have to endure the rest of that infomercial, as the call to board the bus was made. My ears were grateful, as was my mind! All the while, I sat with my back to the tele, not wanting to submit my eyes to the punishing visuals – LOL – Though, I did catch a glimpse of the laser thingy.

I had wondered if the bus from Jacksonville, FL would be late due to the hurricane moving up the coast, but found out that that route had been cancelled between Jacksonville and Charlotte, so Ms. Earl’s bus was on time. During the boarding time, we gave our goodbyes and I drove back home in the rain, arriving without incident. I had no thoughts of ordering a 6 DVD set of informercial church nor a Startistic thingamajig!

I sent her a text to let her know that I had made it home and she let me know that the puppy was on the bus with her. How nice, a traveling companion. Not sure if the doggy was going all the way to Ohio, though. There was a change of bus in Charleston, WV.

Safe travels, Ms. Earl. It was good to have you visit!
